A BAUBLE OF A FIRST is a domestic short story about Mal and Sebastian a month after the events of IN THIS PRETENCE. Sebastian is planning his first Christmas away from his mum, and Mal is preparing his first Christmas without his family. When their feelings intercept festive cheer, Sebastian finds himself reassessing what Christmas means for the first time spending it with his boyfriend without the pressure of familial obligation.

Helios, the sun god, meets Iphis, a trans scholar who's travelled for education. However, he starts to find more to learn in the sun god's temple than he does in a library. However, when Iphis is taken back to his home country by his vengeful father, Helios is powerless to save him, which sparks revenge in Iphis when he returns.
